PREORDER Seaweed Garland linocut print
This striking seaweed print was inspired by the beach I walk on daily. Each morning, the tide throws up an array of gorgeous specimens onto the pebbles that vary in texture and shape. I wanted to celebrate this often overlooked part of the botanical world by making a garland image. I have tried to inject a sense of movement by keeping the undulating shapes that seaweed make when they are pulled to and fro by the underwater currents. The contrasting circular motif underpinning the image was inspired by Japanese zen and creates a striking visual contrast to the organic shapes that have been overlaid. Each time you glance at this image, I hope it brings a feeling of peace and stillness. The image has also featured in the international exhibition 'Flora'.
'Seaweed Garland' is printed using Cranfield's Sage Green oil-based ink on gorgeous white 285gsm acid-free, archival quality Rosapina paper, and measures approximately 56cm x 56cm from paper edge to edge.
Please note: To make my printmaking practice as sustainable as possible I am printing this on demand, so please allow a few days after purchase while I handprint the item for you and allow it to dry.
This item would make a stunning statement piece in any home and would make an ideal birthday or housewarming gift - as well a gift for anyone that loves the sea and the nature that flourishes in and around it.
Please note this is a limited edition print, with only 50 prints in this colour being created. In addition to this, because the print is relatively large, I print this image entirely by hand, meaning each item is entirely unique - a seaside treasure that no one else will ever have.
I am selling the prints unframed or with a teak wood poster frame holder that is made to fit the print precisely. This will be sent unassembled to protect the print in transit, but is very easy to assemble. The wooden bars at the top and bottom of the print 'stick' together with ease because they have strong magnets embedded inside them. They are easy to take apart without damaging the print too.
All my original prints are carved and printed by hand and every single one of them is a unique reproduction. Paper is more often cut by hand too. For this reason, subtle variations in the paper, its size, colour, inking and finish will occur from print to print. When you buy a hand pulled print from me, you are choosing these unique variations over digital reproductions.
