This greeting card is a high quality reproduction of a drypoint etching I made using Chine Collé. The image was inspired after a stay at the Elmlea nature reserve in Kent where there is a wealth of flora and fauna, in particular birds. I spent a happy weekend here watching the birds swoop around in gorgeous, unspoilt surroundings and this print brings back many happy memories for me.

The process involves using a very fine needle to etch into acrylic to create the image of the birds and then carefully inking up the plate with rags and finally polishing with the palm of your hand. Chine-collé is a technique that uses Japanese nori rice paper glue and delicate tissue-like paper to create washes of colour. Together the two techniques give a delicate but dynamic depiction of birds flying home to roost shortly before the sun sets.

This card would be an ideal gift for any bird lover but also those who enjoy being surrounded by nature. The cool colour palette evokes a sense of serenity as the day comes to an end.
